Evans MBUGUA

Evans Mbugua is undoubtedly an artist of joy and color. I met him at the Parisian auction Piasa in 2016 and I have followed his evolution since then. His creations entitled Staying Alive are in perfect harmony with the emotions that ran through him during the strange summer of 2020.

Born in Nairobi and now living in Paris, Evans transmits his cultural miscegenation, his optimism and broad smile through his work, which combine expressions of joy and lightness. A hymn to the men and women who give rhythm to their life and pleasantly color to your world.

During his first visit to Atelier Le Grand village, Evans had the opportunity to expand his practice with the discovery of non-digital printmaking. To make his monotypes, he had the help of Niall Bingham, a printer who guided him in the choice of color and paper.

I am very happy to present a preview of his original works in the gallery N’Afridie conceived in the Atelier Le Grand Village.

Evans Mbugua

At the origin of a meeting...

This painter from Nairobi demonstrates stages of  his life in his graphic works that he creates in his studio located in Paris. The human being, at the center of his artistic approach, tells its story in pictures in which hidden faces rub shoulders with clothes of shimmering colors. Evans M’bugua uses glass and plexiglass to sublimate its themes which underly human frailty.
