Since 2003, the publishing house Mare et Martin has been a reference in the publishing of fine books in the disciplines of Art History, Law and Political Science.

In 2021, Gaël Martin, its director, accompanied by Nadège Besnard-Roussel, artistic advisor specialised in contemporary African art, have chosen to create a collection of monographs dedicated to the contemporary art scene from various continents, starting with AFRICA.

For this collection, which they have chosen to call “In the World”, Gaël and Nadège have surrounded themselves with a team of art critics, art historians, curators and connoisseurs of African cultural and political concerns.

We have also included in this team graphic designers, photoengravers and printers to assist with the the  design these unpublished monographs are in French and English. Edited with rigorous care and a critical eye, these works are destined to become indispensable tools for those who wish to complete their knowledge and discover an exciting and bubbling cultural creation.

Publising House MARE & MARTIN

My meeting with Gaël Martin, director of the publishing house mare & martin based in Kremlin Bicêtre, in October 2020 offered me a great opportunity: to develop a collection of art books dedicated to artists from the African art scene.

My knowledge of the network of galleries and artists combines perfectly with Gaël’s passion for contemporary art.

Together, we are building a collection of artists’ monographs, including those of Diane Victor, Sanaa Gateja, Ernest Düku, Aliou Diack and many others to come…

Atelier Le Grand Village

I have been working since 2018 with Francis Van der Riet, director and founder of “Atelier le Grand Village”. This lithography studio located in Charente Limousine aims to revive the art of stone lithography (a printmaking technique that closely reproduces the texture of a pencil, a brush, the colour palette, the gestures and the sensitivity of the artist).

The workshop regularly collaborates with artists from Southern Africa such as Diane Victor, Hanneke Benadé, Evans Mbugua, Mongezi Ncaphayi, Bambo Sibiya, Banele Khoza and Jan Vermeiren. The artists come to create directly on the stone and participate in the printing process. For them, ‘Atelier le Grand Village’ becomes both a place of inspiration and research where they can use various processes such as photolithography, monotype, linocut and engraving.
